How to read these

Every partner says implementations go smoothly. We would rather walk you through situations we have actually seen in Calgary: what the business was running before, where the problems emerged, what we did, and what changed afterward. If you want to go deeper, ask us for a reference in your industry and we will make the introduction. Real conversations provide a level of insight that case studies and written summaries cannot, and we are comfortable with both.

A Calgary manufacturer that could not see job costs

The shop floor ran well. The books did not. Job costs lived partly in the accounting system and partly in a spreadsheet maintained by the estimator, and nobody knew which jobs were making money until the year-end review, when there was no time left to act. We implemented Business Central with job-level costing tied directly to production orders. Costs now accumulate against the job as work happens, allowing unprofitable work to be identified and addressed while there is still time to respond.

Processes of Control and Approval of Expenditure

Inventory across two Calgary locations was tracked in a shared spreadsheet, so the answer to the question of what was in stock, and where, was always a phone call. Orders were promised on stock that did not exist. Business Central provided one live picture across both warehouses, purchasing driven by actual reorder points, and picking that matched what was really on the shelf. Fewer apologetic calls to customers is the result they mention most.

An energy services firm managing too many entities by hand

Multiple companies, intercompany transactions everywhere, and a consolidation that took the controller the better part of a week in Excel. We set up their entities in Business Central with consolidation built in. Month-end consolidation went from days to hours, and the controller shifted focus from assembling numbers to understanding them.

A consulting firm losing track of billable time

Time sheets came in late, in three different formats, and invoices went out late and incomplete. We brought time entry, project costing, and billing together in Business Central. Invoices now go out on schedule and reflect the hours that were actually worked. Partners can see project profitability while the work is still underway, not after the project is complete.

A nonprofit untangling restricted funds

Grants and restricted donations were tracked in separate spreadsheets, and proving to a funder that money went where it was promised took days of assembly. We implemented fund-level accounting in Business Central, turning that exercise into a report instead of a project. Board reporting improved as a result, not because it was the objective, but because the same financial information was now organized, current, and accessible.

The pattern behind all of these

Different industries, same underlying story: information trapped in spreadsheets and disconnected systems, with decisions made later than they should be as a result. The fix is straightforward: one system, configured by people who took the time to understand the business first. For more than 20 years, that has been our job.

One of our clients described the experience better than we could. Chris Hoffman, CPA, CMA, of Rozen Steelworks, said he would highly recommend Joesoftware to any company looking for a Business Central partner after an implementation with no disruption to the business. We appreciate the compliment, but the value is that it reflects a client’s experience in their own words.
